LONDON CALLING

Chris and I had a pleasant day in unforcasted sunshine trekking through the wilds of Bermondsey Estates to find a guy who built fixed wheel bikes cheaply. It was like walking through a set from the"Bill" and I had a real sense of deja vu going up one flight of steps to this flat. I expected to be overtaken by a guy with a knife pursued by Reg. The bloke wasn't home and Chris was keen to drop back later in the evening but i was not. He's going to pick up the bike (hope the bits are not flogged) when he gets back from Sweden and then become a bike courier. Do parents ever get a break from the worrying! We then moved on to the Design Museum on the Southern Bank of the Thames which had an exhibition of the architect James Rogers who fdesigned the milleniun dome and other international landmarks. it had a great shop with funky designed stuff and ,by then a much needed cafeteria. We moved on passing the "Golden Hind" replica . Its much smaller than I imagined. Did anyone else watch the series about Sir Frances Drake and Queen Elizabeth as a child. Probably not as I seemed to be the only kid compelled to watch ABC. We went on to the Tate Modern which had a big exhibition of street art. There was a map of the art in the area. I think Chris was a little dissappinted that he was not represented. Last stop was going to be the Royal Thames Yacht Club but they were not impressed by Chris's attire ("No jeans") so we went to Harvey Nicholls Bar and and drank 11 pound champagnes then staggered home. Glad to see you have some sunny weather around Henley, Staines and Egham - seems weird to think that 28 years ago I was hanging out in the same place! The Hind is still tiny eh. Claire
